Tips & Notes

  • Measure the window width and height accurately (cm or inches).
  • Standard fullness (1.5×) works well in most spaces.
  • For a soft, luxurious look, choose Full fullness (2.0×).
  • For a floor-length curtain, measure from the hanging point to the floor and subtract your desired clearance; the calculator does not make this adjustment.

FAQ

Common questions about curtain sizing.

Q. What is “fullness,” and which option should I choose?

Fullness is the extra width of the curtain compared to the window width. It creates fabric folds (drape) for a more attractive look.

  • Light (×1.2): A simple, neat look (good for small spaces).
  • Standard (×1.5): A balanced, natural look (recommended for most cases).
  • Full (×2.0): A rich, luxurious look with deeper folds (great for living rooms and bedrooms).
Q. Should the curtain length be the same as the window height?

By default, the reference length equals the window height you enter. It is not the finished hanging drop: measure from your chosen hanging point and allow for the header, hem and floor clearance before ordering.

Q. How do I choose between a window-length and floor-length curtain?

For a window-length curtain, measure from its hanging point to the intended lower edge. For a floor-length curtain, measure from the hanging point to the desired clearance above the floor; window height alone cannot determine this.

Q. Do I calculate the width per panel or the total width?

The result is the total flat width for all panels combined. Divide it by the number of panels you plan to hang.

Q. What units can I use?

Yes. Choose cm or in separately for width and height. One inch equals exactly 2.54 cm.

Q. Can I use this calculator for blackout or sheer curtains as well?

Yes. The formula does not depend on opacity; choose the fullness that suits the fabric and check the product specifications.

Q. What should I keep in mind when buying ready-made curtains?

Compare the calculated total flat width with the combined listed widths of all panels. Check each panel size, overlap and mounting details before buying.
